Fly from Chennai to Lucknow, cross into Nepal at Nepalgunj, and reach the Tibet border by small aircraft and helicopter via Simikot and Hilsa. From Taklakot you continue to the sacred Manasarovar lake and the three-day parikrama around Mount Kailash, crossing the Dolma La pass.

One of the Executive Directors of Coral Holidays, who has undertaken the Kailash Yatra several times, travels with the group throughout. Every pilgrim receives a certificate of completion.

The four faces of Kailash

Each face, a different jewel

South FaceLapis lazuli, deep blue. The Dakshina Murti face, seen from Darchen.
West FaceRuby, deep red. Visible on the first parikrama day when the sky is clear.
North FaceGold. At Terapuk around evening, it can glow golden, weather permitting.
East FaceCrystal. Revered as the crystal face of the sacred mountain.

Before you go

Original Voter ID is compulsoryYour passport will be with the Chinese Embassy for the visa, so you enter Nepal on your original Voter ID with the silver hologram. Photocopies are not accepted. Apply now if you don't have one.
Passport 90 days aheadWe collect passports 90 days before departure for the Chinese visa. Flights to and from Lucknow are booked only after the visa is received.
8 studio photographs33 × 48 mm, white background, no glasses, not in white clothes. Write your name and "Coral · Kailash" on the back and send by courier with the completed visa form.

Kailash yatra FAQs

How difficult is the Kailash parikrama?

It takes three days: 13 km on day one, 22 km on day two over the Dolma La pass (the longest and toughest day), and 8 km on day three. Most pilgrims ride a pony with a horseman and helper, arranged locally.

How high does the yatra go?

The highest night stay is Terapuk at 15,750 ft, and Manasarovar is at 14,850 ft. Emergency oxygen is carried during the parikrama. Please consult your doctor before booking.

What documents do I need?

A valid passport, which we collect 90 days before departure for the Chinese visa, your original Voter ID with the silver hologram to enter Nepal, 8 studio photographs and the completed visa information form.

What will the food and rooms be like?

Vegetarian meals are served throughout. Rooms are basic in Tibet: Taklakot is a 4-storey hotel without a lift, and Manasarovar, Terapuk and Zuthulphuk have dormitory-style rooms with outside toilets.

Is the pony cost refundable?

The pony, horseman and helper charges (approx. ₹61,500) are collected at Manasarovar and are not refundable, even if you decide not to complete the parikrama.

Can I join from Madurai, Coimbatore or Bengaluru?

Yes. The group flies Chennai–Lucknow, and flights from your city to Lucknow are not included in the tour cost. They're booked only after the Chinese visa is received.

Can I pay in instalments?

Yes. Pay a small advance and the balance in monthly instalments through our travel-finance partner, subject to credit approval.
